Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall!

Hi Everyone!

Hope all is well. Here in the great Adirondack region its truly fall. The leaves are changing the north winds are a blowing and the air is brisk and clean. In fact, this year the locals say the leaves changing colors are 2 weeks early.

Maybe this weekend or the following one of our friends has promised us an airplane ride to see it. Will definitely share some pictures. Maybe even get a pic of the house from the air.

Here you can see some of the giant sunflowers we have growing down in the yard below the barn. Unfortunately we got a late start on them and they are just now blossoming. But look at their size! Some are wellof 7 ft tall!

Well the past 2 weeks have seen a flurry of activity on several fronts. The lawnmower sheared a bushing/washer, dropped the bearing out from around the shaft housing for the blade and required total replacement. It may have been aggravated by the rocks that were struck weeks earlier. Wasnt expensive just time consuming. I'm pretty sure its all back together correctly, no 'profit' in extra bolts. I took a spin on it last night and it started & cut grass wonderfully. Well, like any normal riding mower!

And, this morning we awoke to a broken window in the Subaru. Please see lawnmower test flight above for the possible cause. Mower+darkness+gravel=broken window.

So what is Gina doing here?

Well,she is spotlighting the Porcupine!!!!!

Here are some pics of the Porucpine Greta tree'd in the crabapple tree several nights ago. Gina came out and held her in the spotlight till I could get a good photo. This one was large about 30-40lbs. Easily 3/4 the size of of Greta.

Here is a quick pic ofthe house showing the ongoing sanding and the clouds that sat over the house during a change in weather about a week ago. Its super cool when the clouds roll over the house and envelop the property in a thick white mist. Spooky.

And how could I forget the girls. Faithfully guarding the garden for chipmunks and porcupines!

Exciting life in the adirondacks!!!

Can you believe it, 2 posts on 1 day!

OK here she is, the new addition to our family, Dixie. She is 1/2 Shepherd 1/2 Lab from the Adirondack Humane Society. She is 10 weeks old, energetic, inquisitive and can sit.

Greta adores her, they run around and play all over the yard. More pics and stories to come shortly.

Look! Gina in the kitchen canning relish & pickles from the garden! Grandma would be proud!

Yes, very proud of the first 3 feet and 2 steps of my patio. Damn, that is some hard work moving and laying stone. My only hope is to get it finished before the snow starts. Speaking of snow, we had a frost last night! But our garden survived well as it is located ina microclimate near the pool which has stored a tremendous amount of latent heat.

OK, here are a couple of pics of my cheese making forays. Other than a swiss style of cream cheese and some yogurt, this is the first of hopefully many rounds of hard chesses. This is a farm style cheddar. Waxed and everything!

Yes Mom, again you were right. Even though the potato plants looked rough after 'groveling' through in fact there are hundreds of them! These are the first of the blue potatos. Ohh are the delicious. Buttery and succulent, not like the dry coarse and mealy things in the grocery store!

and the story continues...

OK folks, sorry for the delay but we are just so busy with work, school, shows and the house our entries have been wicked late. So here are some photo recaps

View From white Face MT of Lake Placid. 25 min drive from the house 2 weeks ago when we tooka break and had lunch away from the house after a grueling 2 days working in the garden and ont he patio.

If you look carefully you can imagine our little dome right behind the lumpy hill in the distant middle. If you look closely you can see Lake Champlain & the Green Mts of Vermont

OK below we are excavating and backfilling the patio. Notice my sterling attention to job safety with the use of a back brace only after racking my spine on heavy rocks for 2 days.

Here is our only shot with a Persoid Meteor and an image of the house at night while we sat by the fire watching the celestial show.

Check out that Martha Stewart paint job in the kitchen! We have already replaced the wall lamp for some nice halogen spots. The space is actually very warm and inviting now.

Next entry:
Canning, cheese making, flagstone laying, photoshoots, and....

a new addition to the family!!!!!!

Relax moms, no-one is pregnant.
ciao
